We are proud of our sporting achievements at St Ursula's. The children always try their best and we aim to uphold the Olympic values: determination, equality, respect, excellence, friendship, courage and inspiration. We try to give all of our children as wide a range of good quality, inclusive sporting experiences as we can through events, workshops and after school clubs and encourage competition within the school and borough. We work closely with the Havering Sports Collective who provide many of these opportunities and CPD for coordinators and staff.
Healthy Breakfast Day
The children enjoyed learning about healthy breakfasts from a representative from Change for life. They had an assembly and then each class had a workshop to discuss the daily sugar recommendations for children 5-7 years. It is approximately 6 cubes a day and a 500ml bottle of coke contains 14 cubes of sugar. Some breakfast cereals contained very high amounts. The children enjoyed chopping up fruit watching the adults use the smoothie bike to make it and then tasting their smoothies!
The children enjoyed a workshop learning the skills of playing sitting volleyball. They all enjoyed moving on their bottoms and keeping the balloons in the air using their fingers to pass to partners and in groups.
The children and adults thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Big Bus Dance festival at Hornchurch. They worked really hard to learn the routine giving up a lot of their lunchtime. They were very enthusiastic and respectful of other performers. There were some amazing professional dancers and a wonderful celebration of Dance. Congratulations to the children for a wonderful performance!
What a great celebratory day for the "Change For Life" young sportspersons.
We had a great time at the YMCA .....
Tuesday 19th January.
The children really enjoyed taking part in the Five a Day Pentathlon. They were supported by the B.tech students from Campion. Class Blue enjoyed it so much they asked if they could do it again! One of the Year Two pupils said: 'It was good because they told us what we had to do and there were pictures of what we had to'. (Campion students)
We had a visit from the leopards semi professional basketball team based in Brentwood. One of their players Tosin and their members of staff Tony came to talk to the children and hand out tickets to basketball games/ prizes.
